Meet Taryn!
Serving San Antonio families since 2022!

Hi there!
My passion for supporting families began with my own birth experience in 2020. What started as a deeply personal journey quickly grew into a calling to walk alongside others as they begin their own. There is something incredibly powerful about welcoming new life, and I feel honored to support families through every step of that transformation.
As a doula, I’m all about creating a space where you feel informed, confident, and truly cared for. I love educating families on everything from pregnancy and labor to breastfeeding and postpartum, because knowledge is empowering, and you deserve to feel prepared for what’s ahead. In my prenatals, I focus heavily on birth and postpartum education. So, be prepared to learn and be informed!
I’m also a big believer that prenatal preparation - both physical and mental - is vital when it comes to birth. Through my Body Ready Method Pro certification, I guide birthing mamas in finding supportive, functional movements and exercises that can help encourage optimal positioning and lead to a smoother, more efficient labor experience.
When I’m not supporting mamas and their families, you can usually find me in the kitchen baking fresh bread (because let’s be honest—there’s nothing better than the smell of homemade bread and a cozy home!), running around with my three children (they keep me young!), getting out the outdoor tools to gardening, and playing board games with my husband (only if I can stay awake enough after the kids are in bed!).
Whether you’re just starting to explore your options or preparing to meet your little one soon, I’m here to support, encourage, and celebrate you every step of the way.
Fun Facts About Taryn!
Do you have any children?
Yes! I have three wonderful children, who are the best blessings! While they do exhaust me ALL THE TIME, they also teach me so many lessons in life. Through parenthood, you learn the beauty of sacrifice and service. It isn't always easy, but I know that it is SO worth the effort! Parenthood is transformative, and I am a better person for it.
Describe your personal birth experiences?
Many people like to ask doulas about their own birth experiences, and I have personally experienced the many ways to have a baby. My first was born through Cesarean. My second was an unmedicated VBAC. My third was through adoption. I feel like my personal experiences help me better cater towards the families I'm serving.
What did you do before becoming a doula?!
Most doulas don't finish high school and say "I want to be a doula!" For most, it is a journey of discovery that leads them in this direction. Personally, I didn't discover this passion until I was pregnant with my first child. Before that time, I was working in Financial Analytics.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Finance from UTSA, and worked in the corporate world for a decade, creating financial models, planning annual budgets and helping leadership make multi-million dollar decisions. While it was fun and challenging, it didn't feel rewarding. Being a doula and helping families find joy in a very memorable moment does!
Why do you have multiple certifications?
You will find that most doulas have a multitude of "hats". It's rare for a doula to only have one certifications. As part of continual learning opportunities, many doulas look out for other certifications to help them grow and better assist the families they serve.
What are your hobbies?!
Oh, where to start?! When I can find the time, which is hard with three children, I love to remodel furniture. There are constantly remodel projects sitting in my garage waiting to be finished.
Beyond that, I also really enjoy gardening. We have a large garden in the backyard that constantly has tomatoes, squash and peppers. It's always so rewarding to pick the fruits of your hard labor!
Finally, I am a closet gamer... My husband and I spend our quality time either playing board games, or finding a corporative video game to play after the kids go to bed. Yes, I am a nerd...
What is your favorite part of birth support?
The connection that occurs between a mom and her support person during labor is unparallel. As a doula, you get to witness a deeper connection between a laboring mom and her partner, and it is a joy to help capture that moment. Additionally, I love the moment a mama holds her baby for the first time. It really is one of the most beautiful moments in life.
Why "Adding Arrows"?
Originally, I was going to call my business "Taryn It Up Birth Support!", but ChatGPT said that was too abrasive and might make people think of tearing up their "lady bits"... So, I made the decision to go another direction (laughs).
I am a Christian, and I do believe that children are a blessing. So, as the psalmist says "Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children... blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them."
Do you teach birth classes?
YES! I do teach an array of birth classes through Rooted Birth! We have an array of classes aimed for those wanting a hospital birth to those looking to birth at home. If you have the opportunity, check out the classes at https://www.rooteddoula.com/events-classes
